Trouble Shooting

NO WATER!!!!!
If you have no water or very little water, check the following:

1: Do you have a toilet running or a faucet running somewhere in the house? This is the most common reason for running a well down.

2: Do you have electricity? For those of us with well water, no power means no water.

3: If you have a water filtration/conditioning system, is the system running and pumping water out to the drain? If this is occurring, your system needs to be put on bypass if this is not the normal time for the system to be going through a backwash cycle. Then call as soon as possible to arrange for service.

4: Is a fuse blown or a circuit breaker off? Check to see. If the circuit breaker trips again after resetting or a fuse blows again after replacing it, you will need to call a pump specialist for service.

5: Check your pressure gauge by your pressure tank. Does it read zero? If so, you have a problem with your well pump system and will need to call a pump specialist for service. We recommend Parmelee Pump at (860) 349-3592.

Low Pressure

Very slow flow or significantly reduced water pressure:

Plugged cartridge filter - you need to change the cartridge. The rule of thumb is a cartridge should be changed every 6 months or sooner if you lose pressure.
Plugged water filtration system - you need to put your system on bypass. If the pressure improves, you will need to make an appointment to have the system serviced. Full-sized water filters, especially neutralizer filters, need to be serviced a minimum of once a year. Failure to do so can result in low pressure due to clogged distributors.

Heavy water usage - check hoses, faucets, etc. to see if you are using a lot of water at once. Shut down these faucets and then see if the pressure improves.

Faucet strainers - It is possible for dirt and sediment to clog these screens. Check and clean.

Pressure switch - If the pressure is still low after checking the above, you may have a faulty pressure switch. You will need to call a well pump specialist.

Staining

1: If you have a water conditioner/softener, check and see if there is salt/salt substitute in the brine tank. If there is none, you need to add it to the tank and recharge the system. If you have an Ecowater water conditioner, you should recharge the system twice so that it is fully recharged.

2: You have a water conditioner/softener and there is salt/salt substitute in the brine tank but the salt level has not dropped down since you added salt. The likely problem is that the salt has caked up due to humidity. Normally a pail of hot water added to the salt tank will drop the salt level down about a foot indicating that this is the problem. Until you have used up all the salt in the tank, you will need to do this about once a week until the salt is gone. If you use potassium chloride (salt substitute), it is recommended that you only add one bag to the brine tank at a time. This product is notorious for caking up and causing problems. If when you add hot water to the brine tank and the level does not drop, you will need to call for service.

3: You have a neutralizer filter, when was the last time it was refilled? It is VERY IMPORTANT to have these filters refilled at least once a year. Failure to do so will result in the unit not being able to filter your water and elevate the pH properly and also reduced water pressure. Neutralizer filters use calcium carbonate which is dissolved by your water in order to elevate the pH. It also can filter down to 20 microns removing ferric (red water) iron and sediment. In order for your filter to give you the best filtration, it is very important to make sure that the calcium carbonate levels are maintained regularly. If your neutralizer filter hasn't been serviced recently and you are experiencing low pressure with the filter on line, please call to schedule service.

4: You have an Iron filter with Potassium Permanganate feed. When was the last time you added chemicals to the small tank? Check, you may need to add and put the filter through an extra cleaning cycle. If this is not the problem, please call to schedule service.

I have a new water conditioning system installed and my water feels slippery

1:  If you have a new water conditioner installed, it is normal for the water to feel slippery.  That means your water is soft.  You need to keep in mind to use less soap and less detergent.  It is very important to remember to adjust the amount of dishwasher detergent.  Instead of filling both sides of the soap dispenser with detergent, you should only use about a tablespoon of detergent.  Now that you have conditioned water it is no longer necessary to add extra detergent.  If you continue to add the extra detergent, the detergent can etch your glasses and dishware due to the harsh chemicals in the detergent that are used to combat hard water.
